Chris Marks, Vancouver Island Regional Community Liaison

Chris Marks is the Vancouver Island Regional Community Liaison at Praxis Spinal Cord Institute. Chris has over 15 years of lived experience with a spinal cord injury (SCI) after he was paralyzed as a passenger in a single-vehicle incident.

Chris has over a decade of experience advocating for inclusion and mobility at provincial, municipal and individual levels for BC. He has been actively involved with Camosun College Board of Governors, Vancouver Island Compassion Club, City of Victoria Accessibility Working Group, and Victoria Regional Transit Accessible Transit Advisory Committee, providing insights on SCI. Currently, Chris serves on the Active Transportation Advisory Committee with the City of Vancouver.

His SCI research interests are diverse, and in particular, his focus areas are sexual health, neuro-modulation and neuro-restoration, urogenitary health, upper-extremity function, and adaptive equipment.

Chris earned his Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Marketing from Camosun College in Victoria. Before acquiring his SCI, Chris worked extensively in the marine industry in construction, fabrication, deep-sea fishing, eco-tourism, and culinary arts. Chris has a C5, AIS-C spinal cord injury since 2005.
