ISNCSCI App Launch: Bringing the Gold Standard for Spinal Cord Injury Care to Clinicians’ Fingertips

The International Standards for Neurological Classification of Spinal Cord Injury (ISNCSCI) provides the gold standard for assessing and classifying motor and sensory changes caused by spinal cord injury. Accurate classification is key to guiding treatment, predicting recovery, and advancing research. Its complexity reflects the challenges of SCI itself, highlighting the importance of tools that help clinicians deliver consistent, high-quality care.

In 2012, Praxis introduced a validated web-based algorithm to support clinicians, reducing scoring errors and improving diagnostic consistency. Today, the algorithm is used in over 100 countries, and widespread adoption has revealed opportunities to make it even more useful,
including requests for mobile and offline access, a more intuitive workflow, and integrated training support.

Responding to this, Praxis recently developed the ISNCSCI App, powered by the same trusted algorithm. Clinicians can now enter motor and sensory scores bedside, instantly generating neurological level and injury severity classifications. The app also:

  • Works offline for low-connectivity environments
  • Securely saves exams and exports standardized PDF report
  • Displays color-coded dermatome visualizations for rapid interpretation
  • Offers a practice mode to train fellows, residents, and other health professionals

The ISNCSCI App was soft launched in November 2025 at the National SCI Conference. Within two months, it was downloaded 548 times as of March 2026, and it is already being utilized in an international clinical trial in Australia.
